Hawaiian Pahu Drum
Many times it is the Hawaiian Pahu Drum that is the first sound you hear announcing a hula. Whether that is in a competition, a wedding, or gathering. The drums are painstakingly carved by our master carver using island hard woods such as Coconut or Kamani. Shark skin is rare so our drums are covered with cow hide and produce a comparable effect as the shark skin covered drum. Coconut sennit rope lashings give the drum a finely detailed finish.
Drum is functional and is performance ready. Drum have been seasoned, however humidity and temperature do have varying effects on the tension and wood expansion/contraction. Care should be taken into account depending on location. Each drum is unique. Minor variations in wood grain and handiwork create a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork.
