Typically used as a broom throughout Polynesia and the world, these coconut leaf midribs also are a perfect dance costume accessory. Add in feathers, flowers, or beads to add to your visual impact. Often in the islands, flowers (usually plumeria or hibiscus) are strung up on the niau malo and added to floral arrangements in wedding centerpieces and event decor. They are fairly hard and sturdy for a dried natural plant fiber. Bunch measures approximately 2 1/2 ft. and contains an average of 300 midribs.
