The fish hook is a symbol of skill and ability to provide for one's self and family. Since ancient times Hawaiians have honed their fishing skills and made an art of not only fishing methods but also making fish hooks and lures. Originally, the hooks were made of whale bone or dog bone.

Today, most hooks are made from cow bone. Our hooks are also made of cow bone. Handmade and carved, our Makau fish hook are a labor of love for our artisans. The intricate woven cordage also lends to the attention to detail and the style inspired by lures used by Hawaiian fishermen.

Hook information: 18" necklace, approx. 1.5" high, 7/8" wide
